“The Bride!” is sort of an update of “Frankenstein” and “The Bride of Frankenstein”. It takes place in 1936 Chicago when Frankenstein’s monster seeks a mad scientist to help make a bride for him because he has been lonely. Together they dig up the corpse of a dead hooker who the mob has killed. When the corpse is revived she and “Frank” go on sort of a road trip. This is one weird movie. While it is a take off on the Frankenstein movies, it has a modern sensibility with humor and horror. Jessie Buckley, who was so good in “Hamnet” plays the Bride. Christian Bale’s monster is articulate and, of course, misunderstood. He is also a movie fan. Not for everyone, but it is an interesting curiosity.
